The Devil’s Quest – £ on request

This tour is based on the legend surrounding Jan Reynolds, a Dartmoor landowner, who made a pact with the Devil to have seven years good luck as a gambler in return for his soul. At the end of the allotted time the Devil returns to claim his part of the bargain and our route follows the one he took in order to complete his quest.

We start at The Tavistock Inn, where he stopped to ask for directions to Widecombe in the Moor and we end up near to The Warren House Inn, the second highest pub in England, where Jan was last sighted clinging to the Devil for dear life on the back of his flying horse. Here you will see a lasting memorial to the unfortunate landowner.

Along the way we take in other points of interest including the tragic grave of Kitty Jay, the fate of the Bowerman and the horror of the Hairy Hands.
